The late Gus Nichols during his preaching career had the habit of studying his Bible for five hours every day.  On one occasion he came across a Bible passage that confused him.  So he read it, and thought about it, and discussed it, and pondered it every day -- for eighteen years.  Finally, one day he said, "That's what that verse means!"  If it took and ardent Bible student that long to properly understand one passage, then I'm not going to be too discouraged if I struggle with a certain verse and its meaning doesn't come clear to me overnight.
