How God views abortion

1)      What if someone asked us if it is possible to worship the devil—what would we say?

2)      If we said “yes, this is possible,” how would we answer a follow up question:

3)      How could or would someone worship Satan if they so desired?

a)      Both of these questions are answered in the First Corinthians letter.

b)      In 1 Cor. 10 Paul made a very interesting statement.

c)      He was speaking of Gentiles who worshipped various types of idols.

d)     1 Cor. 10:20 says a sacrifice to an idol was really a sacrifice to a demon.

e)      Idol worship is one way to worship Satan.

4)      Our world may look at idolatry and think it is not that big of a deal.

5)      If a man worships a rock or tree, what is so bad about that?

6)      Paul said this type of activity is a method of demon (Satanic) worship.

a)      This fact becomes pretty significant when we link it with some information in the Old Testament.

b)      When the nation of Israel came into the land of Canaan it met up with some idol worshippers.

c)      One of the pagan gods worshipped by the various “ites” in Canaan was “Molech.”

d)     This false god was associated with the Ammonites.

e)      Jewish tradition says the image of Molech was a hollow brass statue outside the city of Jerusalem.

f)       This statute, which is said to have been shaped like a calf, supposedly had seven “chapels.”

g)      In the first chapel people offered fine flour; the second chapel was for turtledoves or young pigeons.

h)      If you had a lamb, you were allowed to go into the third chapel.

i)        A ram allowed you to go to the fourth chapel; a calf qualified you for the fifth chapel.

j)        An ox allowed someone to get into the sixth chapel.  There was also a 7th and final chapel.

k)      Guess what sacrifice was needed for this last place?  A child – a human sacrifice.

l)        In the 7th chapel there were metal hands which were heated; priests laid children on the heated hands.

m)    When human flesh comes into contact with something hot, people feel great pain and often scream.

n)      Drums were used to cover the screams of those being sacrificed.

7)      God was aware of this pagan deity as well as all the details of these sacrifices.

8)      Lev. 18:21 specifically mentions this false god and explains how it was worshipped.

9)      Parents took their children to this pagan god and literally sacrificed their offspring.

10)  As parents burned their children to death to honor a false god, innocent blood (Prov. 6) was being shed.

11)  Demons as well as the devil himself were being honored because idol worship honors Satan.

a)      If someone wants to know how wicked and awful Satan is, just combine the references I have given.

b)      Children were burned to death, the sacrifices were made to Satan, and the devil accepted them.

c)      Thousands of years ago the devil was in the business of death, pain, misery and destruction.

d)     Satan has not changed—these things still interest him.

e)      If we are not on the side of God, we are on the side of Satan.

f)       What the devil wants for us and has planned for us is far worse than we can image.

g)      This is one of the things to think about when we consider the pagan god Molech.

12)  There is another point that bears careful consideration and this is the main subject for today.

13)  Our nation would not allow people to do what was done a long time ago in the land of Canaan.

a)      Imagine two parents who say, “We are pagans.  Our pagan beliefs require a sacrifice.”

b)      “We are going to build a pagan altar and there we will sacrifice our children.”

c)      As soon as the police got word of this type of thing they would intervene.

d)     Child services would immediately step in and take away the children.

e)      The parents would go to jail or be subjected to intensive interviews and counseling.

f)       Parents would be told this type of activity is not allowed; they are unfit parents.

14)  National news sources (CNN, FOX, USA today) would carry stories about the religion crazed parents.

15)  America would say the type of activity I have described is the action of uncivilized and crazy people.

16)  This type of activity is wrong; children are precious and they must be loved, not killed.

17)  Then our world would turn right around and defend a practice that is commonly called abortion.

a)      I do not know how children were sacrificed to Molech each year.

b)      Maybe one child a week was sacrificed; maybe it was one a month or 20 a month.

c)      I do know something about abortion.

d)     In this country, on average, a baby in the womb is killed every 21 seconds.

e)      I want us to think about this fact – on average ever 21 seconds an abortion occurs in America.

f)       Let’s see just how long 21 seconds is; I brought a watch and am going to use it now.

g)      PAUSE for 21 seconds.

h)      The 21 seconds that have passed represent one more unborn baby that was or will be killed.

i)        On average multiple children are killed minute after minute in the United States.

18)  These children are not sacrificed to a pagan deity; we have advanced beyond that.

19)  Our children are sacrificed to the god of convenience, a lack of planning, covering sexual sin, etc.

20)  Our nation wants sin to be nice and tidy so we have come up with some clever wording.

a)      A baby is not a baby; it is a “fetus” or “tissue.”

b)      Instead of “murder” we use words like “terminate, extract,” and “abortion.”

c)      All these terms sound so “medical”; they seem “scientific.”

d)     We can try to reclassify murder and justify it, but nothing is changed.

e)      Innocent blood is shed, just as it was shed when people sacrificed children to Molech.

f)       The Supreme Court may say this is legal and right; Congress and the Senate may say the same thing.

g)      A country’s president may be also not be bothered by the killing of innocent children.

h)      As we have heard from Prov. 6, God “hates” the shedding of innocent blood.

21)  This is not something that God is bothered by a little bit.  It is not something He wishes we would avoid.

22)  God says “I hate this act.”

23)  Consider again how long it takes before another child is killed – 21 seconds.

24)  It is estimated that 42 million abortions are performed world-wide every year.

25)  Broken down into a single day, this is about 115,000 per day.

a)      America—this single country—has more than its fair share of abortions.

b)      Our world has a lot of concern about the economy and things are certainly not good right now.

c)      Throughout the world there are prosperity problems.  Many are suffering and suffering greatly.

d)     Politicians are looking under every rock for a solution.

e)      How many have considered that “innocent blood” may be a root cause for our problems?

26)  When a nation sanctions the death of innocent blood every 21 seconds, will God just sit by?

27)  Does not that innocent blood cry out for judgment and justice?

28)  Doctors take an oath; this oath has changed many times over the years.

29)  If we look at the oath in its original form, we find that it mentions abortion.

30)  Doctors used to promise that they would not perform an abortion.

31)  Doctors recognized that what is in the womb is life and thus sacred.

a)      As our world moves away from God, it moves away from the sacredness of life.

b)      This is a fairly recent and dramatic change.

c)      Prior to 1973 nearly 50 of the states in this country opposed abortion.

d)     1973 was a very significant year.

32)  January 22, 1973, 9 men issued an important decision we know as “Roe verses Wade.”

33)  Basically this decision says women have the right to kill their baby early in their pregnancy.

34)  During the first three months the decision to kill a child rests with a woman and her doctor.

35)  One statistic says12% of abortions are performed in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

36)  That means there are more than 150,000 late term abortions are performing in this country.

37)  God’s word has something to say about this.

38)  We find some relevant passages in the Old Testament prophets.

a)      One theme among these great men of old involves the reversal of good and evil.

b)      It is possible for people to call “good things evil” and “evil things good.”

c)      Prophets like Isaiah (5:20) made this very point.

d)     Our nation, I am sad to say, is guilty of this very sin.

e)      The killing of innocent children is an evil thing, but society says it is “good.”

f)       Taking the life of the unborn is a “right” women need.  A woman needs to have “control” of her body.

g)      In some cases parents may not be informed about a daughter’s abortion.

h)      Our world says a woman needs the right to “choose” what is best for her.

39)  A society can become so evil that it “lacks natural affection” (2 Tim. 3:1-3).

40)  This is precisely what occurs with abortion.

41)  There are women who should have “natural affection” for their children but they do not.

42)  Sin can harden people; 1 Tim. 4:2 refers to a conscience that has been “seared.”

a)      There are women who become pregnant and have a “seared conscience” about abortion.

b)      They do not think twice about the procedure.

c)      In fact, some have the procedure multiple times.

d)     Others are perhaps deceived, but their “natural affection” is still out of whack.

43)  It is said that 2 out of every 100 women in America, ages 15-44, will have an abortion.

44)  48% of these women have had at least one prior abortion.

45)  This is a national epidemic; innocent blood is flowing like a large river.

46)  God says He hates this practice, but our world says “Let’s do all we can to keep it legal.”

47)  When a nation or an individual decides to openly and actively oppose God’s will, it is headed for trouble.

48)  Some think times are pretty tough now; things can get a whole lot worse.

49)  The full measure of God’s wrath can wipe out a nation.

50)  Instead of having bad times, nothing is left when God’s wrath is fully executed upon a country.

51)  Some may think the shed blood of the unborn is bad, but not really, really bad.

a)      If someone has drawn this conclusion, they might be interested in one more fact.

b)      Abortion is the most common surgical procedure in America.

c)      If this piece of information does not open the eyes of people, nothing else will.

d)     The wars we are fighting pale in comparison to the innocent children who are being murdered.

52)  People in office talk about the need to make the world a safer place for children.

53)  We need good schools; we need to provide help to avoid gangs; we need drug free zones.

54)  Given what has been said, the biggest threat to children is not a gang or bad schools—it is the womb.

55)  The womb poses the greatest danger to the children our society professes to love.

56)  Providing abortions is a very lucrative business and this is one more reason why people want it.

a)      About $500 million dollars a year is made with this surgery.

b)      With an early pregnancy a child can be killed for about $370.

c)      About half way through a pregnancy the cost rises to about $775.

d)     At 20 weeks the cost is about $1,200.

e)      There is money in this sin, but those involved with it recognize what is involved with it.

57)  Abortion is such a grisly procedure that people have often lied.

58)  Many women feel so guilty about having killed their baby they lie about having an abortion.

59)  Doctors have lied about abortion; a mother says “tell me the gender of my baby.”

60)  Doctors have said it was too early for that information.

61)  Often this is a lie because doctors know a woman would likely reconsider her choice.

62)  A woman might ask if her child was “a baby yet.”

63)  Doctors have said “no,” even though a child had fingerprints & could feel pain.

64)  The remains of a child’s flesh have been cremated in many places.

65)  The burning of that flesh is not far removed from what happened with the false god Molech.

66)  America needs help, but the core need for help is God.

67)  Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin will destroy it.

68)  If God were to judge America in part because of our Christian life, what would the verdict be?
